Executive Remuneration Services

A range of executive pay solutions to ensure transparency and alignment with performance

In an environment where scrutiny and transparency have never been greater, Hewitt's executive remuneration professionals are at the forefront of contemporary executive and director pay issues. We advise senior management and boards on all aspects of remuneration strategy, design, benchmarking, alignment with performance, governance and disclosure.

We develop strong, ongoing client relationships, to ensure our advice is relevant to the organisation's circumstances. At the same time, we maintain a high level of independence, carefully balancing the interests of executives and shareholders in the advice we give.

Specific areas of our advice embrace how much to pay and how to pay, including:
  • Company peer groups for benchmarking executive and director pay
  • Executive pay benchmarking, including analysis of reward component mix
  • Director pay benchmarking, including analysis of fee components and structures
  • Short and long-term incentive plan design, modelling and communication
  • Executive employment agreements, including termination provisions
  • Remuneration in the context of corporate transactions and changes in control
  • Remuneration in regional and global markets, via our extensive global presence
Our approach is supported by our extensive remuneration database and our experience in developing business strategies for executive and director remuneration.

Top Executive Remuneration Database

Our comprehensive database contains information about the remuneration packages of more than 10,000 Australian executives and a similar number of non-executive directors across all industries. It is an amalgam of data obtained from a variety of sources, including our long-established remuneration surveys and extensive analysis of annual report remuneration disclosures and in some cases, AGM notices for listed companies.

Each remuneration package is analysed according to company size, scale and industry characteristics, as well as the executive's role within the company. Incentive payments are analysed on the basis of both target values (in the context of remuneration intent) and actual values (in the context of alignment with company performance).

Data covering a selection of companies, including our survey subscribers, are analysed and presented in the Top Executive Remuneration Report (Australia). For further information on this Report, please see our executive remuneration survey page.

Customised Surveys

Companies needing a more in-depth analysis of particular remuneration arrangements or policies not normally covered in the Top Executive Remuneration Report may commission a customised or feature survey. With this type of feature survey, we approach target companies (often within the same industry as the commissioning client) to seek their participation, on the basis that they will receive a copy of the study report.

Through the feature survey facility, clients are able to highlight industry trends and practices that help guide formulation of their remuneration strategy.

Incentive Design

Hewitt has been involved in helping organisations create plans from policy to reality and has also been involved in modifying existing incentive plans. We can assist in ensuring that a strong link to visible measures (KPIs that reflect the corporate strategy) is put in place and that variable pay rewards executives for exceeding expectations, not for failure.
