Responsible for
Planning, directing and implementing the organisation's Occupational Health & Safety and Workers Compensation programs to ensure a safe, healthy, environmentally friendly and accident free workplace.
 
Reports To
Human Resources Director, Operations Manager.
 
Supervises
Team of Occupational Health & Safety Officers, Environmental and Workers Compensation staff.
 
Main Activities
  • Planning and implementing Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations throughout the organisation.
  • Managing a team of Occupational Health & Safety, Environment and Workers Compensation specialists to ensure effective services throughout the organisation.
  • Progressing key organisational sites towards ISO Certification.
  • Promoting the organisation’s Occupational Health & Safety and environmental reputation as best practice through participation in high level public and professional forums and through other relevant activities.
  • Overseeing the administration of the Workers’ Compensation program including the implementation of process improvements.
  • Leading the investigation of accidents and injuries and preparing material and evidence on behalf of the organisation to be used in hearings, lawsuits and insurance investigations.
  • Ensuring organisational facilities are inspected regularly to detect potential accident or health hazards, determining and implementing corrective and preventative measures.

    Key Skills
  • In depth knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety and Workers Compensation legislation as it applies throughout the organisation.
  • Managerial ability plus the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff throughout the organisation.
  • Strong documentation and report writing skills.

    Typical Experience
    8 - 10 years of commercial experience predominantly within a specialist Occupational Health & Safety position, coupled with relevant tertiary qualifications.
